The cities that Jesus condemned before Judgment Day

Matthew 11: 20, 22-23
Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida (Cp. Luke 10: 13a). For if the mighty works which were done in you were done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. “And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades [Sheol]; for if the mighty woks which were done in you were had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

BACKGROUND: There are only these 2 references in Luke Matthew and Luke about the city of Chorazin, and the meaning of the name is unknown. Bethsaida means “house of fishes” and 3 of Jesus’ disciples [Philip, Andrew and Peter] were from there (Cp. John 1: 44). Jesus [Yeshua] healed a blind man that was led to Him by some friends (??) and He applied saliva to the man’s eyes, but told the man not to go back into the town nor tell anyone (Cp. Mark 8: 22-26). Jesus fed five thousand people in the desert environment of Bethsaida (Cp. Luke 9: 10-17).

Capernaum means “village of comfort” and it was the place where Jesus [Yeshua] made His home (Cp. Matthew 4: 13). After the wedding in Cana Jesus [Yeshua] went down to Capernaum with His mother, brothers and disciples (Cp. John 2: 1-2, 12). This is where Jesus healed a nobleman’s son (Cp. John 4: 46-54). Jesus was walking on the sea [of Tiberias/Galilee] toward Capernaum, the disciples saw Him and were afraid, thinking they saw a ghost (Cp. John 6: 16-22). It was in Jesus’ local hometown synagogue [Church] that He taught that famous lesson on eating His flesh and drinking His blood, and after this saying, many of the disciples were offended and walked with Him no more (Cp. John 6: 41-68). It is the place where Jesus healed a centurion’s servant [Aramaic version says “son”] (Cp. Matthew 8: 5-13), and came into Peter’s house where He healed Peter’s mother-in-law (Cp. Matthew 8: 14-17). This is also where a certain scribe [teacher of the Torah {Law}] came to Jesus and wanted to follow Him and another of His disciples [who is unnamed] told the LORD to let him first go and make funeral arrangements for his dead father, to which Jesus made that enigmatic and amazing reply; “Follow Me, and let the dead [in sins] bury their own dead (Cp. Matthew 8: 18-22).

Jesus heals a man of an unclean spirit in His local synagogue [Church] on the Sabbath (Cp. Mark 1: 21-28). Some days later Jesus came home to His own local community and healed a paralytic man after some friends tore a hole in the roof of Jesus’ house to let the man down in His midst because they could not enter in through the door because of the crowd. On this particular occasion some scribes were present and when they heard Jesus tell the man his sin’s were forgiven they became offended and accused Him of blasphemy (Cp. Mark 2: 12). The gospel of Luke mentions that Jesus had been teaching on the Sabbaths when this miraculous healing event took place, without including the scribes or Jesus telling the man that his sins were forgiven (Cp. Luke 4: 31-37). Now, Jesus was alone in the house with His disciples and asked them what they were discussing on the way back home and they were arguing about which one of them was “The Greatest” [like boxer Muhammad Ali]; and sadly, this was after the LORD Jesus had told them that He was going to be killed and rise again on the third day (Cp. Mark 9: 33-37). John and some of the disciples saw someone who wasn’t part of the group casting out demons in Jesus’ name and tried to prevent him (Cp. Mark 9: 38-41).

COMMENTARY: The one curious thing about the cities that Jesus denounced is the exclusion of the city of Nazareth because it was here that the people were so hardened He could not even perform a single mighty work there (Mark 6: 5-6a). This is also the place where Jesus read from the Isaiah scroll during the Jubilee Year celebration and they became indignant at His stinging comments afterwards and sought to lay hands on Him and throw Him down a cliff (Cp. Luke 4:16-30).

Last but not least, it was in the region of Tyre and Sidon [which is excluded from Jesus’ woe] that Jesus healed the Canaanite [Syro-Phoenician] woman’s daughter who was demon possessed, but told her that He was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel and that it was not proper to take the children’s bread [blessings] and give it to dogs [Gentiles] (Cp. Matthew 15: 21-28). So, what is the problem here? Jesus gives the answer in John 6: 26-29, which says: Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled [physically satisfied but in a state of spiritual starvation]. “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food that endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal upon Him. Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God??” Jesus [Yeshua] answered and said unto them, “This is the work of God: that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” Here it is in a nutshell, then; the one critical element which escapes notice, namely: “Miracles ‘DO NOT’ produce Faith!” This can be seen all the way from the beginning of the nation of Israel after their miraculous liberation from Egyptian slavery and receiving God’s Law up until this present time, because like most people, whether believers or not, all we want is a blessing of physical healing, deliverance or manifestation but tend to neglect the more lasting spiritual one.

Is there anything that God cannot do?

The idea behind worshipping God is that of a being who is omniscient, omnipotent, immortal, invisible, transcendent and appears in majestic celestial splendor, and as such, has no limitation to His power and will; but are there instances when even God Himself cannot or does not act in a particular way or beyond a certain point outside of the prerogatives of His divine nature? This study will seek to answer this question and provide insight that may prove to be surprising to some.

Jeremiah 32: 26-27
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, “Behold I am the LORD, the God of flesh. Is there anything too hard [impossible] for Me?

Luke 1: 37
For with God nothing will be impossible [too hard].

John 1: 1, 14a
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory [magnificence, power].

Mark 6: 5-6a
Now He could not do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief.

Hebrews 11: 6
But without ‘faith’ it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.

CONCLUSION: This brief search of the Scriptures reveals God as able to accomplish anything, but yet in some strange way man’s response to receiving the blessings of His grace limits the very power which can greatly benefit us; and that of which only He alone possesses. Even the LORD Jesus [Adonei Yeshua] wasn’t able to perform great miraculous things in His hometown of Nazareth because the people had hardness of heart and unbelief. In fact, in all the gospel accounts Jesus [Yeshua] asked the person of whom He was about to heal if they had “faith” or observed the demonstration of it in the belief that He could perform a miracle. Even with His disciples He chided them on more than one occasion about having very little faith. The one special thing that the Creator has given all of us and which He will never violate is our “freewill” which makes us unique among all creation and more like the Father. So, even if we are not as committed to Him as we should be, still God is faithful in loving and caring for us (Cp. 2 Timothy 2: 13; 1 Peter 5: 7).

How to recognize the Antichrist

One of the more fascinating extra-Biblical studies is derived from esoteric Judaism, namely, the Cabbala. This involves assigning numerical symbolism to the 22 consonantal letters which comprise the Jewish alphabet [aleph-bet]. Without going into more of the metaphysical aspects of this branch of occult science it is the intention here to use this method to reveal an underlying message hidden within the Scriptural text.

Revelation 13: 18
Here is wisdom. Let him who has the understanding “calculate” the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666.

NOTE: Before getting into a breakdown of that mysterious number, the first thing to wonder is whether the number is triple 6 or if it is actually six hundred and sixty-six. Usually with Holy Writ if a number were in the hundreds it would specify it as such [450 years], or in some sort of multiple like seventy sevens or fourscore and thirty years, etc. It appears that all Bible translations use six hundred sixty-six but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is the right one. Another aspect is the curious inclusion of the word ‘calculate’ because since the number is already supplied it would seem redundant and unnecessary to then attempt to calculate this number to reveal this beast-man when we are not given any further information, instructions or formula how to “arithmetize” this arcane 666. Be that as it may, Jewish Gematria does reveal an interesting image or picture nonetheless, as in the following below.

Matthew 27: 37, 38
And they put over His head the sign [inscription] written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then two robbers were crucified [nailed up] with Him, one on the right and another on the left.

John 19:17-19
And He, bearing His cross [prop], went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha, where they crucified [nailed up] Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus [Yeshua] in the center. Now Pilate wrote a sign [title] and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH KING OF THE JEWS.

NOTE: Using Gematria of the Jewish alphabet corresponding for the numerical value of six hundred sixty-six is Tav [400] + Resh [200] + Samekh [60] + Vav [6] = 666.
Tav means “sign”; Resh means “Man’s head”; Samekh means “prop/cross?” and Vav means “nail.”

John 20: 25
The other disciples therefore said to him [Thomas], “We have seen the LORD.” So he said, to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my finger into His side I will not believe.”

Luke 24: 36, 39a
Now as they said these things, Jesus [Yeshua] Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “peace [shalom] to you.” “Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself.”

NOTE: Using Gematria of the Jewish alphabet corresponding for the numerical value of triple 6 (666) is Vav [6] - Vav [6] - Vav [6] = triple 6 (666). Remember that ‘Vav’ means “nail” and since it is mentioned three times this would seem to correspond to the three nails or spikes driven through the two hands and the third one through Jesus’ feet.

COMMENTARY: Now what does all of this mean, and how is this symbolism in the Book of Revelation and the beast-man related in an uncannily eerie way to the crucifixion of our LORD and Savior Jesus [Yeshua]? Remember that the LORD Himself said that at the End of the Age individuals will come forth in His name saying I am the Christ [Moshiach] and thereby deceive many (Cp. Matthew 24: 4-5; Mark 13: 21-22). The one thing that must be corrected is this image or portrayal of the Antichrist because he is not a being who distinguishes himself from Christ but rather the opposite. He wants to appear like the very LORD and Savior Himself and doubtless in His guise to deceive even the “elect” he may very well make Himself look as though he bears the pierced hands and feet of Jesus [Yeshua], with all kinds of lying wonders, power, and signs after the working of Satan (Cp. 2 Thessalonians 2: 9). Lastly, the apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 2: 14 –And no wonder! For Satan Himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

Just how does God save a person from their sins?

In nearly every Christian Church at some point in time a person will attend worship services who has not received salvation, and in numerous instances will make it known what their reason is for being in the audience [by raising their hand or writing down the information on a card], and they have come because they believe in God and that Jesus [Yeshua] died for their sins and want to know what to do to have their sins forgiven. The sad thing is that many preachers have not taught them the plan of salvation perfectly and they leave the house of God still in their sin; no matter how tearful and heartfelt their public act of contrition might be. So, to begin with, is there any precedent in the New Testament Scriptures [since we are dealing with the Church Age] where a preacher thought he was teaching the truth but was in error and had to be corrected? See the following below:

Acts 18: 24-26
Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born in Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures came to Ephesus. This man having been instructed in the way of the LORD; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the LORD, although he knew “only” the baptism of John. So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue [Church]. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him they took him aside and explained to him the way of God “more accurately [perfectly].”

NOTE: Can anyone really imagine any modern Preacher, Apostle, Bishop, Pastor, Elder, Minister or Priest that is humble enough to receive instruction from an ordinary worshipping couple or individual, especially when they are right and have been teaching a certain doctrine or theological perspective for any length of time; or even if they are just starting out in their vocation? It is not an embarrassment if you make mistakes and don’t know everything because only the Word of God is infallible (Cp. 2 Timothy 3: 16), and man is prone to err (Cp. Jeremiah 10: 23; Proverbs 16: 2, 25). The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4: 7, which says: We have this treasure [the gospel] in earthen vessels that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.

Now, it is time to explore the matter a little further.

Ephesians 2: 5b, 8a
. . . by grace you have been saved. For by grace you have been saved through faith.

NOTE: The message from the pulpit is you are saved by grace or you are saved by faith and all you have to do is just “believe” and God will save you; but is that really all the Bible says on the matter?

Romans 10: 17
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God?

Romans 6: 17-18
But God be thanked that though you were the slaves of sin, yet you have obeyed [not just ‘believed’] from your heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

1 Corinthians 15: 1-4
Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached unto you, unless you have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all which I also received; that Christ [Moshiach] died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the first day, according to the Scriptures.

Question: So how did the apostle Paul, and those that he penned this letter to receive the Gospel and being saved in such a way that it connects them to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus [Yeshua]?

Romans 6: 1-4, 6-7
What shall we [including the apostle Paul] say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace [Cp. Ephesians 2: 5b, 8a] may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us [including the apostle Paul] as were baptized into Christ Jesus [Moshiach Yeshua] were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ [Moshiach] was raised from the dead by the glory [power] of the Father, even so we also should [must] walk in the newness of life. Knowing this, that our old man [sin nature] was crucified with Him, that the body of sin [fleshly desires] might be [is] done away with, that we should [are] no longer slaves to sin. For he who has died [symbolically through baptism in Christ Jesus] is freed from sin.

NOTE: This question is more for the preachers, namely; “When does someone die to sin; like is it the moment they ‘believe’ or is it when they repent, or is it when they say, ‘LORD Jesus come into my heart and save me right now?’ ” Perhaps some will contend it is really a “spiritual” baptism that is being talked about as evidenced by receiving the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues. SEE BELOW.

Acts 10: 43-44, 46-47
To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name [Jesus-Yeshua], whoever believes in Him will [not has already] receive remission of sins. While Peter was yet speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard [and believed] the word. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”

Question: So why does the apostle Peter use water and is it important? Some preachers teach that the rite of “baptism” is just an open confession [profession] among many witnesses of your faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ as LORD and Savior because you have already been saved the moment you believed. SEE BELOW.

1 Peter 3: 20-21
Who formerly were disobedient, when one the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls were saved through water. The like figure which now saves us-baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ [Yeshua Moshiach]. (Cp. Romans 6: 1-7)

1 Peter 1: 22a
Seeing you have purified your souls in obeying the truth. . .

NOTE: Some Scriptures for further study are referenced in the following:

Romans 10: 9-10
That if you confess with your mouth the LORD Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Cp. 1 Timothy 6: 12).

Acts 8: 36-37, 38b
Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and he [Philip] baptized him [the eunuch].

Matthew 28: 18-120a
And Jesus [Yeshua] came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority [power] in heaven and earth has been given to Me. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you [including this injunction].

NOTE: You cannot even be a disciple of the LORD if you don’t obey Him or have not received His doctrine. SEE BELOW.

2 John 1: 9a
Whoever transgresses and does not abide [receive] the doctrine of Christ [Moshiach] does not have God [no matter how sincere you might be].

Mark 16: 15-16a
And he said unto them, “Go into the entire world and preach the gospel to every creature [person]. He who believes and is baptized shall be saved.

COMMENTARY: The LORD did “NOT” say, “He who believes is saved already” nor did He mention anything about praying to God for forgiveness of sins. Out of all the people who should have understood what Jesus [Yeshua] said it should have been the apostle Peter, and interestingly enough, he is the only one of the original disciples who is involved with and writes about water baptism specifically being connected with being saved or receiving remission of sins. The apostle Paul writes to a young minister of the gospel in 2 Timothy 2: 15, which reads: Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The implication here is that in order to be acceptable to God one has to correctly interpret and apply the meaning of Scripture. Even the prophet had understood the concept in Isaiah 28: 9-10, which also says: Whom will He teach knowledge and whom will He make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts? For precept must be upon precept, and precept upon precept. Line upon line, line upon line; here a little and there a little. Sometimes to better understand a particular doctrine it is prudent to study several passages for specific examples or necessary inferences and comparing spiritual things with spiritual (Cp. 1 Corinthians 2: 13b), and as the apostle Paul said in Acts 27: 20, “For I have not shunned to declare unto you the whole counsel of God [everything that the Spirit of God has revealed in the matter so that one can get a complete picture of the gospel and things that pertain to life and godliness].”

Matthew 15: 9
And in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.

Matthew 22: 29
Jesus [Yeshua] answered and said to them, “You do greatly err, not knowing the Scriptures [Bible] or the power of God (Cp. Romans 1: 16a).”

John 4: 23-24
The hour is coming, and now is, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

The use of anointing oil in Christian Worship Services

I have observed the Pastors of some Pentecostal Christian denominations use olive oil in their healing and deliverance ministries so it prompted me to search the Scriptures to better understand how this practice originated. One of the first things that my study led me to was that olive oil was used in the “anointing oil” and it was not just some ordinary dime-store variety that is on the shelves of the local drugstore or grocery store. In fact, the oil used for the light of the lamp stand in the tabernacle was composed of the pure oil extracted from pressed [cold-pressed] olives (Cp. Exodus 27: 20-21).

Exodus 30: 22-25, 30, 32-33
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Collect choice (quality) spices-12 pounds of pure myrrh, 6 ¼ pounds of fragrant cinnamon, 6 ¼ pounds of fragrant calamus, and 12 ½ pounds of cassia-as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel [5.7 kg]. Also get one gallon of olive oil [pure]. Like a skilled incense maker [refiner], blend these together [according to the art of a perfumer] to make a holy anointing oil. Anoint Aaron and his sons also, consecrating to serve Me as priests. It must never be used to anoint anyone else, and you must never make any blend like it for yourselves. It is holy and you must treat it as holy. Anyone who makes a blend like it or anoints someone else other than a priest will be cut off (destroyed) from among the people.”

NOTE: This is the divine formulation and ingredients as directed by God Himself and it was reserved only for the holy vessels of the Tabernacle and the priests who do service therein. Use of it was forbidden, on penalty of death, among the Israelites for common use or outside the holy service among the sanctuary. However, King David (Cp. Psalms 89: 20) and King Solomon were both anointed with the precious holy oil (Cp. 1 Kings 1: 39-40). Now the believers have a position in Jesus [Yehoshua] as our High Priest to offer up spiritual sacrifices to God. Just like under the Old Testament with the holy oil administered to the priests as well as King David and Solomon, so believers have a“spiritual” anointing oil which has been distributed upon us.

1 Peter 2: 5
And you are living stones that God is building into His spiritual temple, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ [Yehoshua Mashiach].

Revelation 1: 6a
And [He] has made us kings [a kingdom] and priests to His God and our Father.

1 John 2: 27a
But the anointing which you have received from Him [Jesus-“Yehoshua”] abides in you.

1 John 3: 24b
And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit [Holy Spirit] whom He has given us.

NOTE: It would seem therefore that the use of a special blend of olive oil is appropriate, considering that under the “Old Dispensation” Aaron and his descendants were anointed with the ‘holy’ oil to carry out the priestly services in the physical tabernacle and later, the temple. The last consideration, which has always been an enigma, is how much oil to use on a person because it seems to me that a little dab on the forehead in the sign of the cross is not enough, and it is barely visible anyhow; so, can the Old Testament shed some light on this, too?

Leviticus 8: 12
Then he [Moses] poured [not dabbed] some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head, anointing him and making him holy for his work.

Psalms 133: 2
For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the borders of his robe.

Mark 14: 3a
As He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard [perfume hade from the essence of pure nard]. Then she broke the flask and poured it all over His head.

Now, are there any examples of Olive oil being used by the followers of Jesus [Yehoshua] and in other passages in The New Testament?

Mark 6: 13
And they cast out many demons and healed many sick people, anointing them with olive oil.

James 5: 14-15
Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders [old men/senior citizens according to the Hebrew and not necessarily the congregation officials or Ecclesiastical leaders of the church], anointing you with oil [olive] in the name of the LORD [Jesus-“Yehoshua”]. Such a prayer offered in ‘faith’ will heal the sick and the LORD will make you well.

CONCLUSION: Interestingly, the idea behind ‘anoint’ is to apply liberally and depending on the circumstances, it might also include something like massage therapy and deep tissue penetration to promote the healing of some affected region of the body. Today, it seems that olive oil has been used for everything from finances to employment, relationships, blessing little children, the laying on of hands to impart some spiritual gift, ad infinitum. The thing is, though, anointing someone with oil like in the olden days of Bible times may crimp the style of modern believers, especially if it is poured all over a person’s head and starts running down onto their clothing. Imagine the expensive cleaning bill from it staining a nice, expensive church outfit; or possibly even ruining it. And what about a believing sister or a female visitor who spent most of Saturday at the Beauty Salon to get a “perm” and now has to shampoo all of it out of her hair, how long would that take; not to mention the money she paid the beautician for it? No, it seems that inconvenience is not an option and it’s like the ‘BRYLCREAM’ men’s hair commercial from several decades ago-“A LITLLE DAB WILL DO YOU.”

The Scriptures and Physical Health

Introduction:
Pastors Pana and Tai Mamea of Hilltop Christian Center in Tacoma, WA gave a wonderful presentation this past Sunday October 16, 2011, on the subject of “Health and Nutrition” and its correlation to God’s calling upon us to do His work in the world that really inspired me, and this brief study is dedicated in their honor.

3 John 2
Dear friend, I hope that all is well with you and that you are healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.

1 Corinthians 6: 13
Food was made for the stomach and the stomach for food. (This is true both God will do away with both of them).

NOTE: Curious as to why the apostle Paul mentions food [meats] at the start of this passage because he could have certainly left it out.

1 Corinthians 3: 17
God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy and you are that temple.

NOTE: The Hebrew word that translates as destroy is “churban” also means, bring to ruin. If one pollutes/desecrates [through willful neglect accumulates harmful and disease-causing toxins] or doesn’t honor and treat as sacred his own body [Temple], which is the habitation of God in the ‘Spirit’ then such a person will eventually suffer the consequences. One wonders if Coronary Artery Disease, High Blood Pressure, Gall and Kidney stones, Constipation, Obesity, Pancreatic Cancer, Colon Cancer, Liver Cancer, Type I & II Diabetes, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (“Leaky Gut”), Urinary Tract infections, Osteo and Rheumatoid Arthritis, High Serum Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels, and diseases of the Immune and Lymphatic System, including a low White Blood Cell count are all related in some way to poor nutrition and a lack of proper exercise as well as not getting the appropriate amount of rest/sleep. Also, the apostle Paul must have been quite impressed with the influence of the Greeks and their Olympic Games and their emphasis on physical fitness, especially the running marathons because he uses the imagery in comparing our life in this ‘faith’ as in a race to the finish line. Of course, as in any type of athletic competition one has to be in good physical conditioning/training, mentally alert and well-disciplined; eating right and getting lots of rest.

1 Corinthians 9: 24-27a
Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their [physical] training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.

1Timothy 4: 8, 9a
Physical training (exercise) is good (profitable or beneficial-it pays off), but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying and everyone should accept it.

2 Timothy 4: 8
I have fought the good fight [like a boxer that scored a TKO]. I have finished [won] the race, and I have remained faithful [disciplined and diligent?] And now the prize [winner’s garland or wreath] awaits me-the crown of righteousness, which the LORD, the righteous Judge will give me on the day of His return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look for ward to His appearing [to reward the one who gains victory over his competitor or adversary]. (Cp. Ephesians 6: 12)

Hebrews 12:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses [former victorious faith-warriors and spiritual athletes among the Patriarchs] to the life of faith [that we are now in], let us strip off every weight [physical, mental or whatever it is that will impede our doing the work of service that God has for us to do] that slows us down, especially [and including] the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance [like in a 26 mile marathoner] the race that God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus [Yehoshua] the Champion, who initiates and perfects our faith [gives us all the resources that we will need to compete and win].

Ephesians 5: 29a
No one hates his own body but feeds [nourishes] and cares for [cherishes] it.

1 Corinthians 6: 19-20
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself [anymore]. For you were bought with a price, therefore glorify God in [not just with] your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

CONCLUSION: It can be seen from reading the selected Scriptures in this study that there is a correlation and secondary meaning which includes physical health to promote doing the work of God. The many inferences that the apostle Paul included are no mere coincidence and should not be taken lightly or dismissed altogether; as some in the body of Christ [Moshiach] will be inclined to do.
